Title

Fracture to the distal radius: Prospective comparison between trans-styloid and Kapandji fixations.

Reference

JBJS 1995 ; 77 B: 562-567

Summary

No difference between the two techniques at 2 years . Incidence of pain and radial nerve complications and RSD higher with Kapandji technique. Radiological reduction was better with Kapandji technique in the short term but advantage lost at 3 months.

Critique

Not radomised.

Brief

BOARD Injury 1999

Authors

Title

Does Kapandji wiring help in older patients? A retrospective comparative review of displaced intra-articular distal radial fractures in patients over 55 years.

Reference

Injury 1999 December 30 (10): 663-9

Summary

MUA & POP vs Kapandji wiring. Better anatomical & functional results in later the group. Outcome dependent on dorsal angle & radial length at union. Supports use of wires in the older patient group.

Critique

2 surgeons - one acts as control. AO type C only with articular displacement. Powered. Female dominance, mean 73 years, 3 wires technique.
