Upper Limb Nerve Injuries 1

  • Anatomy Superficial in the posterior cervical triangle, supplies sternocleidomastoid and superior 1/3 of trapezius
  • Causes of injury penetrating injuries to he neck, lymph node biopsy, radical neck dissection
  • Clinical findings weakness of shoulder girdle, inability to abduct shoulder past 90

Aching of shoulder and sometimes down to fingers, wasting of upper trapezius, shoulder sag, scapular rotates laterally and distally and flares, inferior angle close to midline than superior angle. The flaring disappears when arm abducted cf long thoracic nerve injury

  • Treatment Primary or delayed suture or interfascicular nerve graft
