Radiographic Evaluation of the Elbow

Standard Radiographs

  • Antero-posterior (AP) 
  • Lateral - A fat pad present on this view is often associated with elbow fractures.

Radiographs according to Anatomical Structures and Pathology

Trochlea, Olecranon and Coronoid

  • Median oblique view

Radial Head Fractures

  • Radial head view (45 degree caudal tilt lateral) 

Radiocapitellar joint, medial epicondyle, radioulnar joint and coronoid tubercle

  • Lateral oblique view

Collateral ligament injury

  • Stress radiograph - an increase in medial or lateral joint space of more than 2mm in response to valgus or varus stress is suggestive of medial or lateral collateral ligament injury respectively.
