Olecranon Bursitis

What is it?

  • It is inflammation of the olecranon bursa (overlying the olecranon process)

Epidemiology

  • A relatively common condition
  • Occurs in both adults and children.

Aetiology

  • Most commonly occurs as a result of pressure or repetitive friction (non-septic)
  • May also occur from 
    • Infection (septic)
    • Trauma
    • Secondary to medical conditions (Rheumatoid arthritis and gout)
