Radiographic Evaluation of the Spine

Cervical Spine

  • Antero-posterior (AP) - visualisation of the general alignment of the vertebra
  • Lateral - visualisation of the general alignment of the vertebra. Also can be visualised is the presence of any increased angulation between the vertebral bodies, avulsion fractures or facet joint widening
  • Odontoid view - visualisation of the atlantoaxial joint
  • Oblique views - allows visualisation of the pedicles and intervertebral foramen

Thoracolumbar Spine

  • Antero-posterior (AP)
  • Lateral
  • Oblique

Radiographs according to Pathology (cervical spine only)

Subluxation of cervical vertebra

  • Lateral flexion / extension view

  • Pillar view
